COP 26 Thornbury Schools Summit

In October, we welcomed to our partner schools and visitors to Gillingstool as we were proud to be hosting the first Thornbury Climate Schools Summit.

The Cop26 summit in Glasgow had quite rightly drawn the attention of the public and politicians to the climate change crisis. However, at Gillingstool, and I am sure other educational establishments, we have been aware of the need to educate our children about environmental issues for many years. We have built our school curriculum to enable our children to develop their awareness of their place in the world and to have a growing understanding of global issues.

Our children are the activists and politicians of the future and if we educate them well they will have the understanding and the power to change the world for the better. The school’s summit was just one step along that journey.

Virtually, we welcomed students from Crossways Federation, Manorbrook Primary, Olveston Primary and Castle School. Also participating in the summit were students from SGS Filton and Christ the King Primary.

We were also privileged to host visitors from Thornbury Town Council and South Gloucestershire council and Dan Norris, Metro Mayor of the West of England.
