Our History

Whilst our name has changed several times over the years, Gillingstool Primary School has been providing education to children in the heart of Thornbury for over 150 years.

We previously occupied the Victorian buildings on Gillingstool Road. Those buildings are now occupied by the Little Acorns Nursery, which is the main feeder nursery and pre-school to our school.

In 2010 Gillingstool Primary School moved into  the new, award nominated, building on our spacious Gillingstool site, sharing the building with New Siblands Special Primary School.

You may notice that we have brought a little bit of history with us to our new school building – the original Victorian bell is now situated in our reception area and is also an integral part of our school emblem!
